The Mufti\u2019s Office of Cyprus (EVKAF) has expressed concern over the increasing number of attacks on Muslim places of worship in Republic-of-Cyprus-controlled areas in recent years, following the recent vandalism of the Albanian Mosque in Limassol.
\nIn a statement, EVKAF noted that unknown individuals defaced the walls of the mosque, causing damage.
\n\u201cAs the Administration of Cyprus Foundations (EVKAF), we are concerned about the increasing number of attacks on Muslim places of worship in Southern Cyprus in recent years, and we strongly condemn this ugly attack on the Albanian Mosque,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
Emphasising their respect for all languages, religions, and races, as well as their commitment to protecting all religious monuments, the Mufti\u2019s Office called for an end to the frequent provocative attacks and urged the competent authorities to promptly identify those involved in the incident.
\nIn a separate statement, the so-called \u201cministry of foreign affairs\u201d in the occupied north claimed that these continuous attacks on the Greek Cypriot side are an expression of a \u201cracist mentality and xenophobia towards the Turkish and Islamic presence.\u201d
\nThey accused the Greek Cypriot side of leaving the attacks on mosques in the south unpunished and asserted that this impunity has led to the repetition of such crimes.
