{"id":11805,"date":"2024-05-14T20:00:26","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T17:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11805"},"modified":"2024-05-14T20:00:26","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T17:00:26","slug":"monks-testify-over-scandal-hit-osiou-avakoum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11805","title":{"rendered":"Monks testify over scandal-hit Osiou Avakoum"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/monks-testify-over-scandal-hit-osiou-avakoum.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>Monks Isiais and Timotheos from the scandal-hit Osiou Avakoum monastery made statements to the church investigative committee on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1946964191\">\n<div id=\"cypru-837042405\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-9296279473887-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Accompanied by their lawyers Adrianna Klaedes and Anastasios Vavouskos, the <strong>monks testified for around two hours each. <\/strong><br \/>\nTheir appearance before the committee is part of a church-appointed investigation into the slew of allegations that hit the monastery in Finikoudes, ranging from money laundering to scamming and \u2018unethical acts\u2019 of sex between monks.<br \/>\nPolice are also investigating sexual harassment and abuse.<br \/>\nTuesday\u2019s process began at 9:30am with monk Avvakoum expected to appear before the committee at 5pm.<br \/>\n\u201cThe statements went smoothly. I must say, the investigator and clerk, both clergymen, <strong>are performing their duties with courtesy and dignity<\/strong>,\u201d Vavouskos said.<br \/>\nHe added he hoped it would go the same way until the end.<br \/>\nLawyers are not allowed to attend proceedings.<br \/>\n\u201cI do not intervene nor do I comment. We await for the dates to be set for when the <strong>witnesses will be examined<\/strong>.\u201d<br \/>\nArchimandrite Nektarios a day earlier testified for four hours and submitted a list with 20 witnesses both within and outside of Cyprus.<br \/>\nArchimandrites Nektarios and Porfirios\u00a0were allegedly found with \u20ac800,000 in cash, and property in Greece and Limassol. They were also allegedly caught on CCTV footage\u00a0having sex with each other. A video also showed a monk\u00a0beating a woman\u00a0that cleaned at the monastery.<br \/>\nThey denied all charges and claim this is a conspiracy slighted against them.<br \/>\nIn a\u00a0lengthy Facebook post last month, Nektarios said the developments have \u201c<strong>shaken his soul\u201d but not dented his faith in God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monks
