{"id":11731,"date":"2024-05-14T08:00:46","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T05:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11731"},"modified":"2024-05-14T08:00:46","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T05:00:46","slug":"uk-employers-plan-4-per-cent-pay-rises-in-coming-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11731","title":{"rendered":"UK employers plan 4 per cent pay rises in coming year"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/uk-employers-plan-4-per-cent-pay-rises-in-coming-year.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>British employers expect to raise wages by 4 per cent over the coming 12 months, a similar rate to three months ago, according to an industry survey on Monday that suggested businesses were less willing to take on higher labour costs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-5478564\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1395894504\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-5975691052293-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said expected median pay settlements in the private sector for the coming 12 months was unchanged at 4 per cent, while expectations in the public sector remained at 3 per cent.<br \/>\nBritish consumer price inflation slowed to 3.2 per cent in March and the Bank of England expects it to have eased further to around 2 per cent in April after a reduction in regulated energy prices.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile employers\u2019 pay rise expectations remain above pre-pandemic levels, we would expect them to adjust their plans for pay rises in the coming months, as inflation falls and the labour market continues to slow,\u201d James Cockett, labour market economist at the CIPD, said.<br \/>\nThe Resolution Foundation think tank, in a separate report on Monday, also said the current growth in inflation-adjusted wages looked unsustainable.<br \/>\n\u201cUnless productivity picks up, wage growth will peter out, or pay rises will simply be passed on through higher prices and prolong our inflation problems,\u201d Resolution Foundation Research Director Greg Thwaites said.<br \/>\nA BoE survey of employers, published on Thursday, showed they expected to raise wages by 4.6 per cent over the coming year, the smallest amount since the series started in May 2022.<br \/>\nOfficial labour market figures are expected to show a small slowdown in wage growth on Tuesday. Economists polled by Reuters forecast regular pay to have increased by 5.9 per cent in March, slightly below the 6.0 per cent rise in the month before.<br \/>\nWage growth tends to be faster than growth in pay settlements in Britain, as the latter does not include gains made by workers who move to better paid jobs.<br \/>\nAlthough the Bank of England held interest rates at a 16-year high last week and signalled it could be on course to cut rates at its next meeting in June, it is still closely monitoring wage growth which threatens to push up inflation.<br \/>\nThe BoE is now forecasting wage growth of 5.25 per cent for 2024, up from a 4 per cent forecast in February.<br \/>\nThe CIPD survey of 2,009 employers took place between March 26 and April
