{"id":11705,"date":"2024-05-13T22:00:53","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T19:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11705"},"modified":"2024-05-13T22:00:53","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T19:00:53","slug":"monk-testifies-for-four-hours-in-osiou-avakoum-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11705","title":{"rendered":"Monk testifies for four hours in Osiou Avakoum scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/monk-testifies-for-four-hours-in-osiou-avakoum-scandal.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>One of the monks embroiled in the church scandal <strong>testified for over four hours<\/strong> before the Synod-appointed investigative committee on Monday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1648849246\">\n<div id=\"cypru-774426055\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-7161319826547-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Archimandrite Nektarios walked through the doors of the archbishopric at 10:15am and wrapped up after 3pm.<br \/>\nHe submitted a list with 20 witnesses both within and outside of Cyprus, though details were not shared by his legal team Andriana Klaedes and Anastasios Vavouskos.<br \/>\n\u201cHe submitted his views, obviously there were questions which he answered and it was done. I cannot say anything about the content,\u201d Vavouskos said.<br \/>\nVavouskos clarified the lawyers were not present as Nektarios presented his statement to the committee, but sat outside waiting.<br \/>\nAsked to comment on the proceedings he said \u201c<strong>I cannot share details<\/strong>, it is not allowed.\u201d<br \/>\nArchimandrite Porfirios was to give testimony at 5:30pm. Both he and Nektarios are on leave.<br \/>\nTheir legal team had raised objections over the process, but Vavouskos said they were told answers would be given after the investigative committee finished its work.<br \/>\n\u201cWe respect the process.\u201d<br \/>\nOn Tuesday, other members of the Osiou Avakoum monastery were to appear before the committee.<br \/>\nBoth Nektarios and Porfirios were allegedly found with \u20ac800,000 in cash, and property in Greece and Limassol. They were also allegedly caught on CCTV footage\u00a0having sex with each other. A video also showed a monk\u00a0beating a woman\u00a0that cleaned at the monastery.<br \/>\nThey denied all charges and claim this is a conspiracy slighted against them.<br \/>\nIn a lengthy Facebook post last month, Nektarios said the developments have \u201c<strong>shaken his soul\u201d but not dented his faith in God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fact:
