{"id":11463,"date":"2024-05-12T00:00:08","date_gmt":"2024-05-11T21:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11463"},"modified":"2024-05-12T00:00:08","modified_gmt":"2024-05-11T21:00:08","slug":"famagusta-suffers-water-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=11463","title":{"rendered":"Famagusta suffers water shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/famagusta-suffers-water-shortage.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Famagusta is currently suffering a water shortage<\/strong> due to a malfunction in the pipe which connects the town with the Panagra reservoir, the town\u2019s Turkish Cypriot mayor Suleyman Ulucay said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-1235800216\">\n<div id=\"cypru-832314001\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-8032324785288-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He said the north\u2019s water board had informed him that water is now being transported to his town from Panagra once more, but that due to differences in water pressure, areas on higher ground are still without a consistent supply.<br \/>\nHe added that experts had told him that it may take until Monday for the problem to be fixed in its entirety.<br \/>\n<strong>The Panagra reservoir is connected by a pipe to Turkey<\/strong>, which has been sending water via the pipe to the north since 2020.<br \/>\nUlucay then turned his attention to other means of sourcing water, saying, \u201cthe most basic duty of any municipality is to provide an uninterrupted water supply to the public.\u201d<br \/>\nHe explained, \u201cfor this reason, in 2010, a seawater desalination plant was built by the Famagusta Municipality, which would have been due to be transferred to public ownership by 2025 under the build-operate-transfer model.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cLater, unfortunately, <strong>this facility was left without electricity and became completely dysfunctional<\/strong> as a result of the municipality\u2019s failure to fulfil his obligations,\u201d he said, referring to actions taken by his predecessor before he was elected in 2022.<br \/>\n\u201cOur duty is to prevent our people from falling foul of this. We will take initiatives to put forward alternative sources of water, including the seawater desalination plant, to ensure uninterrupted water supply going forward,\u201d he
