{"id":10982,"date":"2024-05-07T20:01:30","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T17:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=10982"},"modified":"2024-05-07T20:01:30","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T17:01:30","slug":"celebration-planned-in-parliament-for-cyprus-eu-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=10982","title":{"rendered":"Celebration planned in parliament for Cyprus, \u2019 EU anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/celebration-planned-in-parliament-for-cyprus-eu-anniversary.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>High-level guests will attend a celebration in the parliament on Friday during a special session of the House plenum, to mark Cyprus\u2019 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary since joining the European Union.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-575484346\">\n<div id=\"cypru-292894318\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-8027681471912-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>It emerged on Tuesday that the event will be attended by EU Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou.<br \/>\nThe session will begin at 10am and will last for an hour, followed by another celebration at the Cyprus Theatre Organisation (Thoc) premises nearby.<br \/>\nAccording to information from the parliament, <strong>President Nikos Christodoulides, cabinet ministers, the diplomatic corps and other officials of the Republic will be present<\/strong>.<br \/>\nHouse speaker Annita Demetriou will address the plenum, followed by the leaders or representatives of the political parties and independent MPs.<br \/>\nThe plenary session will be attended by the First Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta Dr Angelo Farrugia, the Vice-President of the Parliament of Lithuania Radvil\u0117 Mork\u016bnait\u0117-Mikul\u0117nien\u0117 and the Vice-President of the National Assembly of Slovenia Danijel Krivec as guests of Demetriou.<br \/>\nAfter the meeting of the parliament, a big event will take place at Thoc where Kyriakidou will speak, and all the guests of the house speaker will be present.<br \/>\nThe foreign dignitaries will be given a tour along the buffer zone by the speaker before the plenary session. They will then proceed to the parliament for the special session, then to Thoc for the event, and are expected to return to the parliament in the afternoon to sign the visitors\u2019 book.<br \/>\nThe event at Thoc will start with a screening of audiovisual material on \u201c20 years of Cyprus\u2019 EU membership\u201d. After Demetriou\u2019s speech, a video message from the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola will be shown.<br \/>\nThis will be followed by greetings from Plakiotakis and Kyriakidou.<br \/>\nThis will be followed by a round table discussion entitled \u201cCollective achievements, common challenges and future course as EU Member States \u2013 The role of parliaments\u201d with the President of the Parliament and all the guests from the Parliaments of the countries that joined the EU with Cyprus.<br \/>\n<strong>The event will conclude with an award ceremony for students of high schools and technical schools<\/strong> in the essay competition on \u201c20 years since Cyprus\u2019 accession to the EU\u201d.<br \/>\nOn May 1, 2004 Cyprus became a full EU member State, along with the other nine acceding countries \u2013 the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>High-level guests will attend a celebration in the parliament on Friday during a special session of the House plenum to mark Cyprus&#8217; 20th anniversary since joining the European Union.
