A dispute stemming from Cyprus\u2019s local elections has escalated after a DISY municipal councillor and the mayor of Dromolaxia-Meneou filed cross-complaints of assault.
\nCouncillor Savvas Kyriakou alleges that Mayor Kypros Andronikou headbutted him during a confrontation at a cafe on Easter Tuesday.
\nMayor Andronikou has filed a counter-complaint alleging assault by the councillor and his wife.
\nPolice are investigating the incident, which occurred in public view, and are reviewing CCTV footage.
\nThis follows an earlier report by Kyriakou of vandalism to his vehicle on Easter Monday.
\nThe councillor suspects the vandalism was politically motivated.
\nKyriakou claims to have identified suspects and believes the incidents are intended to intimidate him.
