Service (Cystat) announced on Thursday that the government\u2019s surplus for the period January-March 2024 reached \u20ac523 million, equivalent to 1.7 per cent of the GDP.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-2101934462\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1500348250\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-9447175645408-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This marks an increase compared to the surplus of \u20ac376.4 million for the same period in 2023, which represented 1.3 per cent of GDP.<br \/>\nDuring January-March 2024, total revenue increased by \u20ac332.8 million (+11.5 per cent), reaching \u20ac3.22 billion compared to \u20ac2.89 billion in the corresponding period of 2023.<br \/>\nSpecifically, total taxes on production and imports increased by \u20ac21.5 million (+2.1 per cent), totalling \u20ac1.04 billion compared to \u20ac1.02 billion in 2023.<br \/>\nNet VAT revenue (after deductions) increased by \u20ac25.5 million (+3.7 per cent), reaching \u20ac708.2 million compared to \u20ac682.7 million in 2023.<br \/>\nIncome taxes and wealth taxes increased by \u20ac135.7 million (+17.4 per cent), reaching \u20ac915.2 million compared to \u20ac779.5 million in 2023.<br \/>\nSocial contributions increased by \u20ac89.0 million (+10.2 per cent), totalling \u20ac958.6 million compared to \u20ac869.6 million in 2023.<br \/>\nFurthermore, interest and dividend receipts increased by \u20ac3.5 million (+14.5 per cent), reaching \u20ac27.7 million compared to \u20ac24.2 million in 2023.<br \/>\nCurrent transfers increased by \u20ac4.0 million (+9.6 per cent), totalling \u20ac45.6 million compared to \u20ac41.6 million in 2023, while service revenue increased by \u20ac70.3 million (+47.3 per cent), reaching \u20ac219.0 million compared to \u20ac148.7 million in 2023.<br \/>\nCapital transfers increased by \u20ac8.8 million, totaling \u20ac12.9 million compared to \u20ac4.1 million in 2023.<br \/>\nRegarding total expenditures, they increased by \u20ac186.2 million (+7.4 per cent) during January-March, reaching \u20ac2.7 billion, compared to \u20ac2.51 billion in the corresponding period of 2023.<br \/>\nSpecifically, intermediate consumption increased by \u20ac19.2 million (+7.7 per cent), reaching \u20ac268.6 million compared to \u20ac249.4 million in 2023.<br \/>\nCompensation of employees (including social contributions and pensions of public employees) increased by \u20ac113.9 million (+14.4 per cent), totalling \u20ac903.7 million compared to \u20ac789.8 million in 2023.<br \/>\nSocial benefits increased by \u20ac72.0 million (+7.1 per cent), totalling \u20ac1.08 billion compared to \u20ac1.01 billion in 2023.<br \/>\nCurrent transfers increased by \u20ac29.3 million (+16.3 per cent), totalling \u20ac208.8 million compared to \u20ac179.5 million in 2023, while subsidies increased by \u20ac1.4 million (+4.3 per cent), reaching \u20ac33.9 million compared to \u20ac32.5 million in 2023.<br \/>\nThe capital account decreased by \u20ac43.1 million (-24.0 per cent), totalling \u20ac136.7 million compared to \u20ac179.8 million in 2023.<br \/>\nSpecifically, gross fixed capital formation decreased by \u20ac47.4 million (-28.7 per cent), totalling \u20ac117.9 million compared to \u20ac165.3 million in 2023, while other capital transfers increased by \u20ac4.3 million (+29.7 per cent), reaching \u20ac18.8 million compared to \u20ac14.5 million in 2023.<br \/>\nHowever, interest paid
