{"id":10188,"date":"2024-04-30T15:01:04","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T12:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=10188"},"modified":"2024-04-30T15:01:04","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T12:01:04","slug":"anisur-rahman-s-body-repatriated-back-to-bangladesh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/?p=10188","title":{"rendered":"Anisur Rahman, \u2019s body repatriated back to Bangladesh"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ch.jfdi.cc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/anisur-rahman-s-body-repatriated-back-to-bangladesh.jpg\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\"><\/div>\n<p>The body of 24-year-old Anisur Rahman was being <strong>repatriated to his native Bangladesh<\/strong> on Wednesday, according to the Honourary Consulate of Bangladesh, Roupen Paul Kalaydjian.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cypru-video-ads\" id=\"cypru-729238091\">\n<div id=\"cypru-1377188260\" data-cypru-trackid=\"478051\" data-cypru-trackbid=\"1\" class=\"cypru-target\">\n<div id=\"gpt-ad-2738325854451-0\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Rahman died on April 10, during a police immigration raid in his Limassol home. Under circumstances that are still being investigated, Rahman fell to his death as he tried to escape from the fifth-floor apartment.<br \/>\nA total of 11 people were crammed into the apartment, which was in a dangerous listed building. All of the individuals were detained but for Rahman, and a 22-year-old Bangladeshi national who was hospitalised after he too tried to escape from the window.<br \/>\nRahman\u2019s death sparked a wave of protests in Limassol and Nicosia, decrying the racism that many third-country nationals face in Cyprus.<br \/>\nKalaydjian told the Cyprus Mail Rahman\u2019s body would be repatriated to his family in Bangladesh within the day. The expenses are covered by the Bangladesh government, he specified.<br \/>\nA police report into the circumstances of Rahman\u2019s death has also been handed over to the Honourary Consulate. It is <strong>consistent with the police\u2019s version of events<\/strong> so far, Kalaydjian said.<br \/>\nOfficers have maintained they followed the letter of the law in the way the raid was carried out. Police have repeatedly stressed officers received consent from the tenants before entering the apartment.<br \/>\nThis comes at odds with testimony which has emerged from Bangladeshi nationals who witnessed the events, that claimed police broke down the door and abused them.<br \/>\nOmbudswoman Maria Stylianou Lottides has begun an\u00a0independent investigation\u00a0into the circumstances behind Rahman\u2019s death.<br \/>\nLottides said her investigation will centre around whether the police followed due procedures and <strong>if any human rights were violated<\/strong>.<br \/>\nKisa NGO has filed a complaint to the independent authority investigating police officers challenging the official narrative from the force.<br \/>\nKalaydjian said they will now be waiting for the findings of the ombudswoman\u2019s probe into Rahman\u2019s death.<br \/>\nPolice have yet to break their silence over the landlord who rented out the apartment \u2013 which is listed as a dangerous building.<br \/>\nKalaydjian added a delegation of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Beirut was in Cyprus between April 26-29, offering consular services for Bangladeshi nationals living in Cyprus.<br \/>\nThe services included issuing e-passports and renewing existing passports. Most Bangladeshi nationals work in various sectors of Cyprus\u2019 economy such as tourism and hospitality, or are students, he specified.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fact:
