The majority of Covid19 cases are from nursing homes, says the Minister of Health – Concern about the low vaccination coverage of the elderly

"Many elderly people are not vaccinated, because they do not want their relatives to be vaccinated," said Dr. Popi Kanari, to add that the Ministry of Health sent mobile units to the closed structures for vaccinations.

People must be convinced that the vaccine protects, said Health Minister Dr. Popi Kanari on Friday, who said that people can get infected with the coronavirus, but the symptoms will be much milder after a possible vaccination.

Asked, after the visit she made to the Nicosia General Hospital, if the Ministry is concerned about the low vaccination coverage of the elderly due to the outbreak of viruses and if additional measures will be taken or if some recommendations will be made, Dr. Kanari said that they are already taking meters.

He explained that unfortunately most cases come from nursing homes, noting that at the moment a total of around 75 patients are recorded and this worries the relevant Ministry.

He explained that "many elderly people are not vaccinated because they do not want their relatives to be vaccinated", to add that the Ministry of Health sent mobile units to the closed structures for vaccinations.

He stated that they will give masks, but also tests to the staff and visitors, while he assured that they will continue the effort for vaccination, because according to the Ministry, the vaccinations should have been completed by October.

He explained that they will resume efforts, because as he explained, there may be more increase in cases and patients afterwards.

"People must be convinced that the vaccine protects. They may be infected with the coronavirus, but the symptoms will be much milder after vaccination," concluded the Minister of Health.
