More than 10 Syrian citizens living in Paphos punched and hit each other with sticks, crow bars and stones outside the city’s Mall area, with at least three suffering injuries, while seven were arrested and the rest are being sought by police.
According to a CID report, two opposing groups of Syrians clashed with each other last night for more than an hour at the Mall’s parking and surrounding area, coming to blows and also using sharp instruments they were armed with. It is believed they were seeking to settle a financial score of as yet unknown nature.
Eyewitnesses called authorities to the scene and most of the individuals involved scattered, with police making seven arrests. Three people are being treated for non-life threatening injuries at the Paphos General.
The CID is investigating the circumstances under which the meeting of the opposing Syrian groups to settle money difference quickly turned violent. According to preliminary accounts, they believe that the brawl was premeditated, as many carried assault instruments.
