Minister of Education: 24-hour security increased in more than 30 high schools

After the answers to OELMEK, the minister plans a meeting with OLTEK as well

OELMEK received answers to the six issues it raised with the Ministry of Education during today's meeting the trade union had with the minister Athena Michailidou. From OELMEK's point of view, it is pointed out that the dialogue was constructive, with both sides agreeing to its continuation.

What was said about the six issues:

Violence in schools

The minister informed that security has been increased in 31 high schools and will be extended to those where there are extreme delinquent behaviors. In relation to the cameras, legal approval by the Personal Data Protection Commissioner is still pending, while clarifications were also requested on how the data will be stored and whether it will be destroyed.

Air conditioners

During this time, it is expected that 50 air conditioners will be installed in schools, while with the start of the new school year and over a period of three years, the rest will be installed as well.

Staffing of KIE and DRACE

The Ministry of Education is in consultation with SEK and PEO on the issue of the staffing of the State Training Institutes and DRASE, and as said by Ms. Michailidou, the Ministry will have a position until April.

Exams and material

The Ministry assured that the material for the baccalaureate exams will be reduced. The material to be examined will be announced in April and sample examination essays may also be posted.

Secondments of Assistant Directors

Regarding the postings of administrative staff to the Ministry or other Services, the Ministry of the Interior seems to agree with the position of OELMEK and committed to reduce to a satisfactory degree the postings of Assistant Directors and Assistant Directors A'.

Private schools

For the legal regime that governs private schools and which provides for three categories of private schools – of the same type, of a similar type and of a different type – a proposal is being prepared by the General Director of the Ministry of Education, and it is expected to be presented to OELMEK within the next 15 days.
