Uncomfortable Poses' at 125 Space

125 Space presents, for the first time in Cyprus, the Polish artist Michael Slusakowicz, in a solo exhibition of the artist, which is entitled "Uncomfortable Poses". Slusakowicz creates scenes that are often inspired by real-life settings, yet rearranged in such a way that they border on dreamscapes. The paintings combine a dramatic, intense color palette with a hyperrealistic approach, like a collage of multiple pieces of time. His work captures feelings of uncertainty by using introspective figures, distorted colors and particular objects, which draw attention to the psychological burdens that many of the issues of the modern age cause. His figures permeate space and time and seem to be caught between two worlds – the conscious and the unconscious.

Saturday 02/03, 10.00-13.00 & 15.00-19.30 & Sunday 02/04, 11.00-18.00 | 125 Space, Limassol

"Clean, now" at the New Stage THOK

Sarah Kane's play, which stirred the stagnant waters of the European stage at the end of the 20th century and is considered one of the best of the in yer face theater genre, is staged at the New Stage of THOK, directed by Euripides Dikaios. In an enclosed space, six persons are subjected to extreme tests under the sadistic gaze of a doctor. Relationships of power and submission that open wounds and crush bodies and souls. A traumatic environment is presented where any attempt at sexual expression is doomed to failure. Cries of love at an absolute dead end, covered by fears and distorted emotions. A unique example of verbal cruelty, iconoclastic action and political reflection, which demonstrates with denunciation momentum the mechanisms of oppression and control of social institutions and authorities, which try to undermine and, ultimately, eliminate any possibility of free expression. "Clean, now" was written in 1998 and is the third in a series of five revealing plays by the author, one of the most controversial figures in contemporary British drama.

"Venus with Fur" at the Chora Theatre

The production of the theater group "Solo for Three" continues its cycle of performances in the first weeks of February. It is a mysterious, funny and romantic drama that brings to the surface questions about the power of gender roles, the nature of sexual desire, while at the same time references to mythology, the arts and history are made within the text. Venus in Furs is set in present-day New York, and the play begins with writer-director Thomas searching for an actress to play the role of Vanda, in Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's classic bdsm and romance novel of the same name, The Aphrodite with the Fur" (1870), which he adapted. Thomas is in despair and unexpectedly, at the last minute, an equally desperate actress strangely named Vanda arrives late for an audition. Despite being completely unsuited for the role, Vanda shows that she knows the text very well, thus attracting the interest of Thomas, who is impressed by her seductive talent and the mysterious veil that covers her character. However, the two of them start studying the text, playing the Masoch couple, and the lines between writer, actor, director and hero begin to blur…

"The Iron Circle of Life" in the "Apocalypse" gallery

Vaso Thoupou returns to artistic events with a new proposal, which she presents in the same gallery that presented her last exhibition, "Reconciliation", in 2021, in the "Apocalypse" gallery. Thoupou's new proposal, entitled "The Iron Circle of Life", has a philosophical mood and deals in depth with human existence and not only the repetitive and cyclical situations that essentially constitute life itself. The banal truth, which refers to the eternal and iron cycle of birth, prosperity and decline in which everything that concerns man and nature is included since they go hand in hand, is the absolute fractal of our life. Each story hides many small stories and these in turn, others smaller, like a repeating pattern that is without end. The circle can symbolize the beginning and the end of a story, but the circle can also be interpreted as an all-encompassing embrace. Vaso Thoupou presents approximately 45 works of various sizes and four textile prints, some engravings and a small number of ceramics.

Saturday 03/02, 10.30 – 13.00 | "Revelation" Gallery, Nicosia
