The EAC urges the consumers of the Larnaca, Nicosia and Eleftheri Famagusta regions to limit the use of electricity as much as possible.
There may be intermittent, short-term power outages in the areas of Larnaca, Nicosia and Eleftherios Famagusta, due to an extraordinary and serious failure that has occurred in a Generating Unit at the Dekelia Power Station, according to a recent announcement by the independent Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO), which is invoked by the Cyprus Electricity Authority (ECA).
The EAC notes in its announcement that "this preventive action of the DSMC aims to ensure the reliability and stability of the Electricity System of Cyprus from possible overloading of the Transmission Network".
EAC apologizes to the consumer public for any possible inconvenience and assures that it is making every effort to restore the specific damage as soon as possible, which requires time-consuming and specialized work.
In addition, the EAC urges consumers in the areas of Larnaca, Nicosia and Free Famagusta to limit as much as possible the use of electricity and especially the use of energy-intensive devices during the evening peak hours (18:00-21:00), so as to minimize the probabilities of a scheduled power outage. At the same time, properties that have generators, such as hospitals, clinics, hotels, industries, commercial properties, etc., are urged to check these generators so that they are in operable condition.
Until the repair of the damage, the data of each day will be evaluated separately and a relevant announcement will be issued by the DSMK. It is noted that the interruptions, if they occur, will be on a rotating basis and unless unforeseen, they will last up to 30 minutes.
