Trade union president criticises draft law addressing hooliganism

Nikos Loizides, the president of the trade union Isotita (Equality) representing police officers, appeared before the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee regarding the proposed measures to combat violence in stadiums.
“Take back the draft law for the measures. If the measures are implemented, we will bring the problem to the streets. The only thing they have not assigned to the police is the VAR” Mr. Loizides stated.
“Fix the cameras in the stadiums and let us do our job,” he added.
Football clubs also disagree with the government’s positions on stadium closures and the integration of fans into clubs.
The president of the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) called on the government to open a dialogue.
The stance of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection, that according to the draft law, any fan who tests positive in a drug or alcohol test will subsequently be released, has also caused a stir.
