Sun and Concrete is not your ordinary coming-of-age film. It is based on the bestselling and much-lauded autobiographical first novel of Felix Lobrecht (German stand-up comedian, podcast moderator and author). The film, set in Gropiusstadt in the summer of 2003, paints a realistic picture of teenage kids in a socially deprived area of Berlin. Lukas, Julius, Gino and Sanchez take us on their nerve-wracking adventure through this fast-paced film with plenty of violence and brutality, yet full of situational comedy.

Film student Steffen Meyn rigs a 360 camera to his helmet and documents activists occupying Hambach Forest. They live in self-built tree houses to prevent the clearance of the ancient forest. Meynโs documentation ends abruptly when, during a police eviction he falls from a tree, leading to his tragic death. Meynโs friends and fellow students created this documentary using the footage recorded by him and conducting interviews with activists from โHambiโ. They share personal insights into the paradoxes and hardships of an activistโs life and deal with the ever-pressing question of how far activism should and needs to go.There will be an introduction and a discussion after the screening with Klitos Papastylianou, an environmental activist in Cyprus. The introduction and discussion will take place in English.

The recruitment agreement of the German Federal Republic with Turkey in 1961 brought many โguest workersโ (Gastarbeiter) to Germany. Cem Kaya shows Turkish-German recent history through music, in his gripping and vivid documentary film essay. A fascinating and upbeat documentation of the music culture of migrants of Turkish origin over the last 60 years in Germany and a celebration of this forgotten, or even little-known, subculture. Over the years this music spans many genres and deals with diverse subjects, from personal, and social to political.
