New Minister of Health (Damianos): The state aims to continuously improve services to patients

The State aims to continuously improve the services provided to the sick citizens and the main concern of the Government is to improve the quality of life of the people, said on Thursday the Minister of Health Michalis Damianos, in a greeting he addressed on behalf of the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides , at the start of the joint Scientific Conference of the Cardiology Societies of Cyprus and Greece.

Mr. Dammianos stated that the 1st Joint Meeting organized by the Cardiac Surgery Working Group of the Cyprus Cardiology Society and the Valvular Diseases Working Group of the Hellenic Cardiology Society contributes to strengthening the national ties that unite Cyprus and Greece over time and confirms that its ties Cyprus and the Greek area in all areas have remained inseparable since ancient times.

He noted that cooperation between medical communities outside the borders of each country is an important factor and can launch progress in the treatment of various ailments.

The Minister of Health expressed the certainty that the meeting of the two groups is a corresponding example, will be a source of inspiration and will lead to new strategies that will improve the quality of care for patients with cardiovascular diseases.

He further stated that valvular diseases are an important cause of mortality and morbidity both in Cyprus and in most developed countries and that the therapeutic treatment of Valvular diseases and especially Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Cardiology, constitute an evolving and particularly valuable field of Medical Science.

"These are surgical procedures performed by a team of highly trained, experienced and specialized personnel," he said, adding that their timely treatment is very important to prevent any irreversible damage to the functionality of the heart.

He also said that based on the fact that cardiovascular diseases are the first cause of death, both in our country and in the European area, the Ministry of Health has appointed a Committee of Specialists to which cases that are not treated within the NHS are referred and based on "The Plan Financial Assistance for Services not offered to the State" are referred to centers abroad, if necessary.

He also noted that the introduction of the NHS on June 1, 2019, opened new horizons in the provision of quality medical care to citizens, offering them universal access to high-level health services, pointing out at the same time that there is scope for improvement "and this is what we are seeking".

In addition, Mr. Damianos congratulated the organizers of the conference, expressed his gratitude for their contribution to the collective effort to achieve the maximum benefit for Cypriot patients, wished the conference to become a permanent institution in medical events in the field of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, noting that the Ministry of Health is helping in the effort.
